Jim discovered that even though he was not involved with any protests, that being shot marked him as "a dangerous person." Jim worked at a department store and lost his job because of his injury (not only did he lose his job, but his dad did as well). The University did not want to see anymore of him either and quickly gave him his diploma.  Jim tried to apply for graduate school, but Kent State refused to admit him. Jim discovered that by being shot, he became "A political enemy of the nation."

Jim moved to Oregon in 1975, to escape the stigma attached to being shot at Kent State.

It is strange that a generation of people no longer remember Kent State or what happened on May 4th 1970.  I know that I didn't have time to tell the whole story to Lori (the lady from parks); like Jim, I didn't have time to finish.

My friend Jim Russell, was a talented illustrator, an architect, an engineer, a designer and a dreamer.  He was a member of Kiwanis, the Sherlock Holms Society, the Columbia George Model Railroad Club.  He was also a very talented photographer and was hired to take pictures of marathons and weddings.  Jim died of a massive heart attack on Saturday June 23, 2007 at the age of 60.  He died while being held in the loving arms of his wife Nelda. He was my friend and he will be sorely missed.
