FRIENDS OF FOX CREEK ANNUAL MEETING
March 2003

Charlie Fox --  Stuffed and Mounted

At the onset of the Annual Meeting, President Darrel Whipple displayed a stuffed fox.
The fox was an apparent road-kill found near Dibblee Beach by Lori Baker (Picture Left).  Lori notified Darrel and he collected it under his Oregon scientific collection permit.  Randy Jennings of Jennings Taxidermy in Rainier prepared the mount, the cost of which was funded by the Willapa Hills Audubon Society.  The Society maintains a collection of mounted birds and mammals for educational use, currently displayed in the biology lab at Lower Columbia College.

Darrel borrowed the specimen from the college to present the banquet members with an example of our local wildlife.  The group christened the fox Charlie Fox, in honor of Rainier founder Charles E. Fox, for whom Fox Creek was named.

David Dickens, recently retired from the NRCS North West Oregon RC & D was the featured speaker.  Dave and his RC & D Program worked with and helped the Friends of Fox Creek from it's very onset.  Dave also entertained the group with other stories of RC &D  successes including how he creatively arranged for Rainer to get a slide hazard survey after a building moratorium was put on the City.
