Incredible! The Party of fiscal responsibility ( RepubliCONS) cannot and will not tell anyone what they would cut to bring down the deficits. After putting two wars and the largest tax breaks for the RICH AMERICANS in the history of the United States on the American credit card the Grand Oil Party has decided that they will fight tooth and nail to make sure that the Democrats pay for any new spending. Wow where were they when the Bush Administration was robbing the treasury of the United States? At the same time they complain that the stimulus package isn't doing anything. They have obstructed and filibustered almost everything the current administration has tried to do to help the American people. They are opposed to the financial reform for the very banking industry that almost caused the next Great Depression. They believe we should apologize to British Petroleum for expecting them to foot the bill for the oil disaster in the gulf and that the Obama Administration is shaking them down for 20 billion dollars to take care of the business and people they have displaced. Now they are depriving unemployed Americans their unemployment benefits at the same time they are standing firm on retaining the tax breaks for the rich in this country. It is unconscionable that these RepubliCONS would begrudge unemployed Americans during a time of high unemployment; they have even said that the unemployed are spoiled and would rather stay on unemployment than find a job. Unbelievable! The reason there are no jobs is because the RepubliCONS have shipped all our manufacturing jobs over seas. They have gone out of their way to make sure China's citizens aren't unemployed. What they have done to our country is nothing short of criminal. They should all be frog walked out of the congress and put in prison for sedition and crimes against American Citizens. I don't give a damn what President Obama accomplishes from here on out. I just find it unreasonable to put the very mobsters who got us into this mess back in power. We cannot afford to continue the policies of the RepubliCONS we had during the Bush Administration. Unless you really want to go back to destruction of America.

SSCP would like to announce auditions for "Gunsmoke" the radio play on July 24th at 10am and July 26th at 7pm at SunShine Pizza.  Looking for people with character and radio broadcast voices, or that can do voice impressions, singing ability not required but a plus, also looking for a quartet.  Please bring your resume if available. Must be able to attend evening rehearsals in August and September and perform in September.

ShoeString Community Players is currently reviewing and soliciting proposals from directors for next years Summer Musical in July 2011.  Please submit your proposals to ShoeString Community Players, C/O Producer, PO BOX 481, St. Helens, OR, 97051.  Proposal should include introductory letter, resume, proposal, schedule, production staff, budget, and projections.

The ShoeString Community Players has been producing plays and other performances in Columbia County for 30 years. Formed from a dedicated group of "Readers" Theater performers, SSCP was officially founded in 1982. The first production was Brigadoon, performed at the St. Helens High School Olmscheid Auditorium. SSCP has consistently produced productions and performances since that time, tapping into the rich and undiscovered talent Columbia County and its surrounding areas have to offer. We perform Revues, Musicals, Dramas, Comedies, Children's Theater, and any other type of production that captures the attention of the community. In fact SSCP is recognized in the Cultural Inventory of St. Helens in the Columbia County Cultural Coalition Summary. ShoeString was also recently recognized by the National Endowment of the Arts for it participation in the "Big Read" with its performance of "The Persian" a Sam Spade radio play. We have been a long-standing, well-respected community group. SSCP is a fully non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, relying on volunteers for every aspect of our operation. Our mission is to support theater and arts through successful productions and participation of the community.

There are lots of emotions over the recent Arizona law re native American migrants. But the aspect of the law that interests me most is the part that gives citizens the legal right to pursue punitive action against 'police' who are not enforcing the law. As a legal precedent, an extension of that part of the law would allow us to effectively wrest control of the police from the ruling class - a very positive outcome, if achieved. I suspect that realization of the potential damage that achievement could portend for them, prompted the widespread 'faux-populist' reaction to the law being validated.
