EMPTY BOWLS FUND RAISER EVENT SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 2010
The fourth annual EMPTY BOWLS fund raiser has been scheduled for Friday, March 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McBride School in St Helens.
This popular dinner event is a major fund raiser for the Pacific Columbia Food Bank and the many agencies it serves. Guests enjoy a communal dinner of soup and bread, while at the same time supporting community members who are experiencing difficult financial strains. "This is truly a community effort," said Jan Kenna, Director of Columbia County Commission on Children & Families (CCCCF). "Everything involved in the event, the bowls, the soup, the bread and butter, entertainment, and auction items, are donated by schools, individuals, and artists of the community who are dedicated to making the lives of those in need of food a bit easier," she said.
The bowls are designed and made by local high school pottery classes. Guests are invited to pick the bowl of their choice and have it filled with the soup they prefer. Local restaurant owners of the Dockside, Klondike, Kozy Korner Restaurant(s), Plantation House Pizza, Houlton's Bakery, and Starbucks have generously agreed to provide the soup, bread and butter, coffee and tea. Tickets, which are $10.00, include the bowl, soup and bread and can be purchased at the Columbia Commission on Children and families at the Court House, at the St Helens book store and at Houlton's Bakery. A silent auction of donated goods will be ongoing during the serving of the meal and entertainment will follow.
The event is sponsored by the Columbia County Commission on Children and Families who realize food security is the primary ingredient in the growing of healthy happy families and children.
Organizers of the EMPTY BOWLS event are hoping for 200 guests this year and guarantee your donation of $10.00 will be appreciated and put to good use right here in Columbia County.
