Days long Gone
Historic Photograph of
County Commissioners puckering up
To meet with Boise Cascade

It has finally happened, Boise Cascade has decided to shut its doors and lay off approximately 350 workers. What happened to the taxpayers' money that the county commissioners gave eagerly to Boise to avoid this? Maybe Boise should give the hundreds of thousands of dollars back to the county or better yet divide it up amongst the workers to help off set the loss of their incomes. We all know that is a delusion, thinking that a corporation would do something in the best interest of its laid off workers, Boise knew full well that they were going down and accepted the free tax dollars laughing all the way to the bank!

The county in the past had always reduced Boise Cascades property tax charges almost every year, after Boise pitched a bitch about their property taxes, and the commissioners wanted to kiss Boise's ass to keep them in town. The tax reduction and free money proved to work didn't it? I bet Columbia County Commissioners were nothing but the butt of corporate jokes after the commissioners agreed to write the check, and reduce property taxes over the many years.

Commissioner Hyde and Bernhard how does it feel to be used and abused? Not very good huh? All the times I confronted you and wrote about your corporate welfare give a ways, and where your loyalty should be, to your constituents not corporations, you had nothing but distain and nasty comments directed at me, now, Do you understand how corporate America really works? I certainly hope so, there are other corporations in this county that you are giving concessions to, and it needs to STOP! Your constituents need to be the benefactors of money, tax reductions not corporations. Your constituents have to bear the many burdens placed on them as it is.

Corporations have no loyalty to anyone but their shareholders and their CEO's no matter how much ass kiss'en Columbia County Commissioners did. I bet our three commissioners especially Rita Bernhard and Tony Hyde have to do a lot of spitting to get the nasty taste out of their mouth. Maybe Rita and Tony should count their fingers after shaking hands with Boise's corporate hacks in meetings, sealing deals that benefited corporate America once again, and believing that Boise would do the right thing.

How about Diane Dillard's comments that were in the local fish wrappers a few weeks back, dispelling all rumors that Boise was going to shut down, Dillard a spokesperson for Boise told a bold faced untruth in my opinion, she knew very well what was going on and so did the corporation, lets continue to string along the employees and the community.

The sewer treatment plant was built to accommodate Boise Cascade, because Boise had a huge discharge of water that need to be treated, Boise was suppose to pay most of the cost through sewage fees, now that Boise is leaving, will the burden be placed onto the people who have city sewer? Of course it will; what was I thinking in making that statement. The cost of their sewer bill will skyrocket. And Boise will leave town, and the out of work employees and others will have to make up the short fall like usual.

When will our politicians understand that corporate welfare at the cost to the taxpayers is just that, a cost to the taxpayers who gets only one thing in return being screwed with out the preverbal kiss.
