I was disgusted after listening to the news Tuesday morning. The story involved a young man named Tyler Frost who had taken a young lady to the Prom at her school. The young man attended Heritage Christian School in northwest Ohio; in order to attend this school the young man had to sign a paper at the beginning of the year that stated that he would not listen to rock-n-roll music, dance, or hold hands etc. Frost adhered to his schools policies; only when he decided to take his girlfriend to her prom did the trouble start. In order to go to the prom at Findley High School he would have to have a paper signed by his principle Mr. England and given to his girlfriend's principle Craig Kupferberg. A written note is standard policy when an outside student wishes to attend a given schools dance.
The principle at the Baptist school told Frost that he would be suspended from school if he attended the prom at Findley high School, Frost went to the prom, and was immediately suspended from school, the principle and the school board agreed to the punishment. Their actions will keep the young man from his finals and will keep him from graduating and receiving a diploma, until he makes up the tests and then will receive his diploma but will have missed out on the walking ceremonies.
At this time, Frosts family has hired an attorney to sue the school. A decision, I totally agree with. How can this school actually believe that they can control a person's activities outside school hours? But then some far right christen groups actually try and control all other peoples lives especially if you are not of their ilk.
I personally find the decision from this backward group of people ridiculous, to blame rock and roll and a dance for the ruin of young people is beyond ignorant. The board and the principle should be sued and that young man should be able to finish school and receive his diploma.
Lets talk about religion and just how screwed up some religions are.
First on my list is the Catholic religion; here you have priests, who cannot marry, or have a traditional relationship with a woman, if they have a relationship with a woman they are thrown out from the flock until they repent and receive forgiveness from Almighty God. But then in the same breath the church has knowingly allowed priests to butt bugger little boys in the congregation or choir. This practice has gone on for centuries, and the only thing the Catholic church has done to correct the problem is to have sent the priest to a different Parish, like he wont continue on molesting children there. The only thing that got the Catholic churches attention, was when lawsuits were filed against them, the church likes money and wanted to keep their money, and cried poverty when they had to compensate the victims, the Catholic Church thinks more of their gold in the Vatican than the molested children.
How about when the Christians rubbed small pox puss on blankets and gave the blankets to the American Indians, nice Christian gesture huh? The Holy Crusades was not about spreading the gospel it was about going to the Middle East and seeking gold and taking it away from who ever had it. Well that little crusade did not work out to well for the Christians did it? The people in the Middle East kicked the crusaders butts sending them back to jolly ole England. All done In the name of God or was it all in the name of prosperity? You decide.
Then you have the Amish religion while the Catholic Priest molest boys the Amish have a huge numbers of incest related incidents with young girls. A religion that is strict and keeps away from modern practices has its dark side as well. The Amish govern their selves and when an incident happens the perpetrator is shunned for a few weeks then is forgiven, the incest incidents are usually repeated. The Amish follow what ever is told them by their clergyman, the man rules the wife, brothers rule sisters. Females in the Amish world have to submit to All males. Like most conservative Christian denominations, the Amish do not allow women to hold positions of power, women are secondary citizens, and education only goes through the 8th grade.
One problem they have is for example, the Amish in Lancaster County, PA, are descendents of about 200 Swiss citizens who emigrated in the mid 1700s. Because they traditionally do not marry outsiders and because few outsiders have joined the order, the "community has been essentially a closed genetic population for more than 12 generations." Thus, intermarriage has brought to the fore certain genetic mutations that were present in the initial genetic pool (as they are in any population), making the Amish host to several inherited disorders." These include dwarfism, mental retardation and a large group of metabolic disorders. One in 200 have glutaric aciduria type I; they are born healthy, but can experience permanent neurological damage when a mild illness strikes. Their religion has created inbreeding and has caused horrible repercussions for the group.
I am not saying all Catholics or Amish people are participating in the mentioned practices but if the beliefs and actions of these religious groups are common in our world, we should not refer to humans as civilized people. Any religion that practices such intolerable actions is not a religion they are a cult, and every knowing member of that group are just as guilty as the perpetrator when they turn a blind eye to the molestation of any child. If that is what religion is, I am glad that I am not affiliated with any religion.
