You were warned about chewing gum

Nobel Network charter schools in Chicago school charges student's $5.00 fines for untied shoes, chewing gum, and the school collected $190,000 last year in fine money. Mayor Rahm Emanuel supports the fines and says that the fines pay for dentition and helps keep small infractions from leading into bigger ones. It is too bad that Rahm Emanuel along with most all politicians are not charged with a $5.00 fine for every infraction that they did, it might just off set the nation's debt, and could possibly keep them from breaking the rules as well

The harassment that is being imposed on these kids is ridiculous and is simply harassment and has nothing to do with an education. There is more; students that receive twelve or more infractions in a school year must attend a summer behavior class and pay $140.00. Sounds a bit like Nazi Germany where the children must attend an indoctrinate class and learn to be a good German. I personally would not send my kid to a school with such targeted ideas. There is a difference in having certain rules to follow or a dress code but to fine people for a button that has come undone is ignorant and in my opinion is way over the edge and should be stopped. The schools superintendent adds that the students are low income, minority and many are the first of their families to attend college and have a higher ACT than other select schools in the Chicago area, stating that these kids need a structured and consequence guided ground rules. But all is not rosy for the school some students who have violated some of the rules no matter how minor, or how good of grades the student gets have had to repeat the grade because of too many infractions. Many parents have had to remove their kids from the school because they could not keep paying the infractions. Some believe that if the students behave they would not have to pay a fine and those who do should straighten up. While other parents believe quite the opposite in the way to handle discipline only time will tell if the idea actually works. I guess parents have the choice to send their kids there or not and if they do then they know ahead of time of the rules that the school uses.
