I am a fourth generation Columbia County resident, born and raised. My great grandparents homesteaded in this county in the 1880s.

I have been involved in government issues for over 20 years: the most recent being the so called "hospital" tax. Beginning in 2005, I was instrumental in fighting the misuse of taxes which continued to be collected even after the old CHD board knew the state would never allow a critical access hospital to be built. I collected signatures for measure 5-209 which should have stopped the tax. When the county commissioners refused to honor the 74 percent who voted to stop the tax, it was decided the old board needed to be replaced. I ran for that board along with four other persons. I was voted in by over 90%  By the time we took office, the old board and your county commissioners had stripped the money, part of the property and an entire year of accounting records. I believe this just is not right and it is now time to replace the commissioners.

You as voters should be proud of what you have accomplished thus far. With your voting support, Columbia County is the first county in Oregon to stop a special district from collecting "permanent" taxes. Please continue what you have begun. Replace the two commissioners, who have ignored the accountability you deserve. I am highly motivated to serve as your commissioner and will NEVER ignore that which the voters ask of me.
