Beautiful Columbia County

The county commissioners will be taking funds away from the parks. They will decide to give part of the money to the parks a portion to the fair and of course the remainder will go into the county's general fund. Several years ago the county told the parks department that they needed to be self-sufficient. The Park Dept. receives funds from Carcus Creek timber sales (Carcus Creek classified as park property). The folks that have taken over the parks have done a remarkable job in managing their money and keeping the parks looking great. This group has made the parks a success and because they have done such a wonderful job and have proven to be an asset to the county and community the county commissioners will reward them in taking their operating money.

I understand money is tight but the parks have worked hard to be efficient. I also understand that Commissioner Hyde told the fair they needed to stand on their own back in the 1990's at a public meeting, and every year after that which they never did, the county continued to give the fair funds.

Don't get me wrong I love the fair and with new people on the fair board, people with a great attitude, a board that welcomes volunteers I believe that the fair will turn around.  I am also hoping with the fair on a new path they too will be able to be as efficient as the park dept. and that in the future the parks will be able to keep their own funds and the fair will have theirs as well.

The remainder of the money should not go into the general fund and I question the commissioner's motive behind their decision to amend the ordinance. I would like to know what dept. they want to transfer the remainder of the funds to.

ON A SIDE NOTE:

I would like to say that my husband and I along with our friends and their family attended the wrestling event that was held at the fairgrounds last Friday night. It was a hoot and I suggest the next time the wrestlers come to town that you take the kids out to the event. The price was very reasonable $10.00 per individual and $15.00 for ring side. The show was over two hours long and the people that attended the event had a great time especially the kids.

I commend the fair board for having family events and for utilizing the fairgrounds. Job Well Done!!!
