Coal

Everyone knows the industrial revolution modernized the world and with the modernization of industry came many adverse problems. We are still paying for man's greatest achievements today. Heath concerns and various diseases to the human populations and degradation to the environment worldwide is the price we have been paying since the industrial revolution. As humans continue to develop new technology, travel through the universe; conquer diseases natural and often manmade. Man claims to be intelligent, evolving, and the superior of all species that inhabit the earth. Unfortunately the human species throughout the world that controls countries and corporations fail to acknowledge or care that their actions of burning coal and other fossil fuels will eventually be the death of our species and that of our planet.

It may take many decades for the full impact of man's irresponsible actions to come full circle, but we are seeing the result of man's irresponsibility today. With harsh climate changes which is the result of global warming, the decline of many aquatic species and mammals.  The noticeable decrease of the vegetation lines in every continent. And the dramatic changes in our polar regions. One would think that those who are creating these adverse conditions would take notice and do everything in their power to stop this decline. Instead these people are pushing to further the degradation of our world simply for the almighty dollar.

Right now the State of Oregon and its people are in a huge battle against these very same irresponsible people. King Coal and multinational coal companies want to continue the degradation of our planet. This time they want to use our state and communities as their puppets in their attempt to circumvent environmental laws enacted by the United States of America which ensures its people certain safe guards against the burning of coal. In their attempt to gain favor for their proposals they will offer a few jobs in a weak economy to placate the citizens.  Coal companies do not want to adhere to these environmental regulations, simply because it would cut into their profits. So in order to maintain their greed they have found markets outside of America which cares little about environmental concerns or human rights.

If we allow Coal to be transported through our communities and our waterways we will be making a grievous mistake. Not only directly to our personal health and that of our environment. But indirectly as well because when the coal is burned without the proper emission controls the dirty filthy air will make its way back to our side of the world and we will be harmfully affected as will the entire population of the world and the planet itself as the airstream dispenses the coal particles at every point in the world.

Man has taken great pride in his achievements throughout time. Man has the capability to revolutionize the way we now live. It is time for man to develop a life away from fossil fuels. Man set his mind to walk on the moon and we accomplished this task. I know we can do the same regarding fossil fuels. The time has come that we need to act. We need to put the life of our planet first and profit and greed last.
