Tony Hyde

This is the county commissioner who gave away $33 million over 15 years' worth of tax abatements to PGE that was intended for Columbia County. He and the other two commissioners resorted to robbing the parks department of their park fees to make up the shortfall. Shameful!

Thirty three million dollars in tax abatements is a huge gift from the Columbia County taxpayers to PGE via county commissioner Tony Hyde. With this reduction in collected taxes from this huge company Columbia County coffers are nearly empty. In order for the county to continue to do business on a limited and severely reduced budget our industrious leaders the county commissioners needed to increase the coffers a bit. So they, in their wisdom decided that it would be a great idea to steal funds from the parks department in order to make up for the tax loss from the PGE giveaway.

I can understand their logic. It is more important to give PGE a tax break of thirty three million over the next fifteen years  then have parks that are kept up for the people of the county to use and enjoy with their families. I can understand how important it is for PGE to keep their stockholders happy and how unimportant it is to the commissioners that the residents of the county enjoy the parks.

I guess the two commissioners who are running for re-election need the campaign donations which they both receive from PGE. I suppose the people of the county really do not need parks.

It is high time that the corporations that reside in our county start paying their full share of taxes just like the rest of us. Commissioner Hyde forgets who pays his wages and who he is answerable too. And it certainly is not to PGE.
It is pretty low when you have to steal park fees to make up funds because you have given away millions.
