Decent hospital care is on the decline in many of Oregon's hospitals. The decline is not because of nurses with inadequate skills, but because of the greed of the hospitals. The CEO's have cut CNA positions and have added the CNA duties to the already over taxed nurses. Along with these added duties the nurses have had an increase in the number of patients that they are responsible for each shift. These dedicated people work 12 hour shifts or more. They often go all day without a break, no food, and water or able to use the facilities because of the number of patients. Nurses understand that their patients come first and they must take their breaks in between their patient's needs. But for the hospitals to expect such heavy patients loads on the nurses is not just right it is dangerous for the patients and for the nurses as well. Nurses not only perform medical tasks but are the caring and support person for the patient and their families in any given scenario that takes place in hospitals every day.

Tuality Community hospital located in Hillsboro, Oregon has been around for many years. Unfortunately TCH has a problem treating their nurses decently. They have reduced the number of CNA's too almost zero. They expect the nurses to care for an extremely high number of patients. They want to cut their pay and benefits and have the ability to change the contract at the administrations whims. The administration wants to change the certification language in order to cheat the nurses out of their certification bonus. A person would think a hospital would have excellent health insurance for their employees; no so at TCH they have poor health insurance coverage for their employees and now want to decrease the benefit coverage.

While TCH strives to cut the positions, wages and benefits along with added responsibilities too their medical personal they have no problem giving hundreds of thousands of dollars in CEO bonus's ever year. Without the hard work and dedication of these nurses and CNA's TCH would not exist. TCH better beware because Kaiser is opening in their area and TCH will lose many of their highly skilled nurses who are looking for a facility that will treat them right.

The next time you are in the hospital and you ring your buzzer and the nurse does not appear right away remember that they are caring for numerous other patient's along with you and they will get to you as fast as they can. It is not their fault but the fault of the hospital and that is where you should complain to. Instead of complaining that they are too slow, give them a smile and a thank you. Nurses earn it and deserve it.
