MORE ON THE BOVINE SAGA

Daryl Swans reporting is full of bull.

The bovine saga continues on in Columbia County. The South County Spotlight wrote a very interesting article about the confiscation of the herd of abused cattle from a rancher in the out skirts of Scappoose. The article included the cost to the taxpayers, and the poor handling of the affair by the county commissioners. The public does not know all the details of the current situation. Or water issues that have generated controversy over the years involving the farmer which the farmer complied with the regulations that were in place at the time.  The farmer was not always at fault and has been more than agreeable in the past to follow the mandatory environmental regulations. What happened here?

What I find interesting

What I find interesting is portions of the Spotlights article written by Daryl Swan. Mr. Swan is the editor of the spotlight. Mr. Swan complains that the three county commissioners Hyde, Fisher and Heimuller have carried on secret meetings and made secret decisions regarding the herd problem. This issue was going on last summer during the time of campaigns for county commissioner; seats were up for Hyde and Fisher. Secret deals and backroom decisions are common in Columbia County and Mr. Swan is well aware of the way these three commissioners handle business, secret and in backrooms. Yet Mr. Swan supported Hyde and Fisher in retaining their prospective seats. So why is Swan complaining about the secret dealings of the commissioner now? Why didn't Swan complain and write an article about his complaints last summer when the poor handling of the taxpayer's money was being abused? Why did Swan and his paper endorse Hyde and Fisher when he knew from past actions of the commissioners that the way they handled the taxpayers business was poor at best?

Mr. Swan you had a chance to support people that had no hidden agenda nor personal gain for county commissioner who would have handled the people's business with open, honest and transparency. Now you are complaining about those who you have supported even when their record has proven in the past and present to be a failure.

The only thing I can say is you got what you wished for and your support of these commissioners most likely swayed many voters. You, Mr. Swan, have contributed highly in promoting poor representation, poor fiscal guardianship of the taxpayer's money for the people of Columbia County, you should be proud of this achievement. Stop complaining, of which you helped retain and start living with your poor decision of supporting these incompetent commissioners.
