Save Our Home,
STOP GLOBAL WARMING

"Happy Feet," stomped all over the box office this past week while dancing to the tune of $37.9 million. Although the vicious right has tried to denounce the movie because of the positive environmental statements made in the movie.

Global Warming is real and has been for decades; the problem is, corporate America denounces every bit of scientific data that is available. Even the president of the United States (George OIL Bush) denounces the very thought of Global Warming and the effect that it is having on the world and its inhabitants.

If the corporations and their backers admit that there is a catastrophic problem facing the world because of Global warming than they would have to make sound business decisions that would cut into their vast profits, something that greedy corporations are not willing to do. These people are so greedy that they are killing off the planet and their selves, their children's future for nothing more than greed. I cant for the life of me, understand, the way these people think. If you do not have a planet that sustains life than what use is all the billions of dollars in their possession.

Scientists predict that unless greenhouse gas emissions are reduced substantially, temperatures in the United States will rise by about 3 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit on average in the next 100 years, with dire environmental consequences.

Out in Montana the drought is in its seventh year, the weather's gone loony, and the temperature of the state's iconic trout streams is inching steadily higher. In Alaska shrinking glaciers, thawing permafrost, warmer and shorter winters, vanishing sea ice, and catastrophic erosion are the by products of Global Warming.

Average temperatures in the Arctic region are rising twice as fast as they are elsewhere in the world. Arctic ice is getting thinner, melting and rupturing. For example, the largest single block of ice in the Arctic, the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf, had been around for 3,000 years before it started cracking in 2000. Within two years it had split all the way through and is now breaking into pieces.

The polar ice cap as a whole is shrinking. Images from NASA satellites show that the area of permanent ice cover is contracting at a rate of 9 percent each decade. If this trend continues, summers in the Arctic could become ice-free by the end of the century.

The melting of once-permanent ice is already affecting native people, wildlife and plants. When the Ward Hunt Ice Shelf splintered, the rare freshwater lake it enclosed, along with its unique ecosystem, drained into the ocean. Polar bears, whales, walrus and seals are changing their feeding and migration patterns; the contraction of the Arctic ice cap is accelerating global warming. Snow and ice usually form a protective, cooling layer over the Arctic. When that covering melts, the earth absorbs more sunlight and gets hotter.

Technologies exist today to make cars that run cleaner and burn less gas, generate electricity from wind and sun, modernize power plants, and build refrigerators, air conditioners and whole buildings that use less power. All countries of the world especially the super powers and most important the worst polluter in the world The United States of America need to immediately take action to stop and reverse Global Warming. This country along with many other countries could stop Global Warming if they truly wanted to. I think that the individual citizens of the world must demand from their governments that Global Warming be addressed, through tighter emission controls, over all pollution controls, advanced technology for energy, renewable energy incentives, and huge fines for any corporation that does not take immediate steps to stop discharging pollutants in the earths air, water.

Even individuals can help omit Global warming. The biggest cause of global warming is the carbon dioxide released when fossil fuels like oil and coal are burned for energy. So when you save energy, you fight global warming (and save money, of course).
Choose an efficient vehicle, Buy energy-efficient appliances, Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, Weatherize your home or apartment, Choose renewable energy to replace fossil fuels. Recycle plastics, paper etc. (Personally I think that there is over kill on packaging especially plastics, which is made from oil, limit the amount of packaging most of it is to catch the eye of a prospective buyer. Prettier the package the more likely someone will buy it.) What happens to the material after you get home, you throw it in the garbage, or burn it! A TOTAL WASTE! CONTRIBUTING NEEDLESSLY TO GLOBAL WARMING. We need to make small changes in our way of thinking and living. If so the battle against Global Warming would be easily won.
