Beautiful, but dangerous King Tides

Text Box: BEWARE KING TIDES AT THE BEACH November 5th-7th

King tides are the highest predicted high tides of the year, occurring when the sun and moon's gravitational pull is strongest. This happens when the sun, moon, and Earth align, often during a full or new moon when the moon is also at its closest point to Earth (perigee). They are a natural phenomenon, but can cause coastal flooding, erosion, and dangerous surf, and are used to help communities visualize and plan for sea-level rise.

This time of the year the ocean is higher than usual, pushing higher and more violently across the beach reaching the dunes. Please be aware of the ocean, it's beautiful but can be deadly in a fraction of seconds. Never turn your back on the ocean, and stay far back from the surf. The waves throw huge logs across the beaches, or causes the logs to roll and often traps victims underneath the log.

Powerful ocean currents, especially when they coincide with storms, high surf, or other weather events,  can cause local tidal flooding in low-lying areas and lead to dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves.

We lose people every year from being stupid or careless. So please use caution and watch the beautiful waves from a safe distance.
