Stupid and Ignorant attempt for gun control. A poorly written Bill

GUN CONTROL, NOT FOR ME

SB 501 is a bill set to appear in the Legislature this year would require Oregonians to obtain a permit before buying a gun, limit the amount of ammunition a person could buy, outlaw magazines with a capacity of more than five rounds and create gun locking and storage requirements.

The bill came from Students for Change, a group of Lake Oswego teens formed last year after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. They lobbied lawmakers and Gov. Kate Brown last year and pledged to come back this year with a legislative proposal. Rep. Andrea Salinas, D-Lake Oswego, and Sen. Rob Wagner, D- Tualatin, submitted Senate Bill 501 on their behalf.

The bill would require a person receive a permit from their county sheriff before purchasing a gun. To qualify for a permit the person would need to: be at least 21 years old; have no criminal convictions; have not violated a restraining or stalking order; not use illegal controlled substances; and provide proof of completing a firearms safety course.

Within a 30-day period, someone could apply for one handgun permit and one rifle or shotgun permit. If someone meets all of those requirements, a sheriff could still deny a permit if he or she "has reasonable grounds to believe" that they are likely to be a danger to themselves or others.

· Capping at 20 the number of rounds of ammunition a person could receive in a 30-day period, exempting shooting ranges.

· Requiring firearms be stored with a trigger or cable lock or in a locked container when not carried or within reach of the gun's owner.

Gun owners would be required to report the loss of a firearm within 24 hours.

I DO NOT SUPPORT GUN CONTROL

Oregon has instant back ground check on the books and is enforced.

There is no reason for a permit, no reason for a 21 year old age restriction, if a person at 18 is old enough to serve in the military and use a gun and KILL people for the US than an 18 year old is old enough to have a gun otherwise. Criminals if they are felons cannot get a gun. And when does a Sheriff have the ability to mind read a person, to decide if they might be a danger? That is wrong. As far as storing a gun with trigger locks in a safe that should be a person right to decide not the government’s.

20 rounds a month is simply ignorant, if these kids and I repeat kids knew anything about firearms they would know that when you sight in a gun it takes a good 10 rounds and if you need to sight in a scope it takes another 10 rounds. People who target practice, or go shooting usually shoot several hundred rounds, and they should be able to do that without oversight, big brother watching or regulating or having to be documented by the sheriff . This is a poorly written Bill which infringes on individual gun rights, and goes over board. You will never have an agreement with the mass people if you cant have reasonable idea’s, all thus bill does is make people dig their heels in for a fight and you are at a stalemate, and making people like me stand on the grounds of absolutely NO to gun control of any kind.

In many cases if there are problems with kids and guns it is a mental issue and it is a parents job to keep track of their kids, be involved in their kids life, instead of spending their time on social media, video games,  be a parent and STOP buying and giving your kid everything they want and more. Making these kids the generation of being entitled, or they throw fits or hurt others.

Teach your kid the difference between right and wrong, what death is, teach them life is not always fair and be responsible, work for what they want, treat other people with kindness and grow up, handle rejection from a girl who the hell cares, there are other fish in the sea. And most of all you are not always number 1, and a winner, sometimes you lose and sometimes you are in last place so what, that’s life.

Parents and society have made it too easy for kids,  in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and other wars are kids at 18 and are fighting for this country, like men they had to grow up fast. So whats wrong with these school shooters,?

Adults who do these deeds are just plain mentally ill. Instead of spending billions on a wall we could take some of that money and provide mental health for those people who need it.

Furthermore if someone wants to kill a bunch of people there are many other ways to do it, like the pressure cooker loaded with nails, or chemical explosives. If you want to kill some one that bad they will figure out  a way.

Taking away gun rights is not the answer.

I do not support Gun Control
