This is what is wrong with religion.

Religion and Women

Religion in all its so-called glory has been the perpetrator in the abuse of women all across the world. Now I am not attacking any certain religion but most religions require a woman to be subservient to men and especially to her husband. We will take a look at a few religions and how religion has influenced the way men treat the opposite sex.

Religion in general and Islam in particular are women’s enemy. Women’s inequality is god’s commandment law in these countries generally follows the prescriptions of Koran. Veiling (hijab), divorce laws, a very young legal age of marriage, custody of children, polygamy, women’s rightlessness in matters of employment, travelling, choosing the place of residence, honor killing are all aspects of Islamic Shari’a based on the Koran and Islam’s doctrine. Together with these, in countries under the Islamic states, women are stoned to death for engaging in voluntary sexual relations and are stripped of their basic human rights. Laws about women are the most cruel, inhumane and cunning aspects of the Koran and Islamic Shari’a.

The Islam religion has deprived half of the population of their basic human rights. The male is in charge of the female: Koran 4:34, and the subjugated half is led to believe, through Islamic teachings, that the supremacy of the man is the will of Allah, and it has been predestined for women to live as submissive, obedient wives.

They are forced to accept that women are inferior to men, that their testimony is equal to only half that of the man, that they should inherit one – half of the male share, that  Allah doesn’t want to see any women unveiled, that she may not conserve with men except her father, or her brother.

The Veil is also a form of control and is demeaning to all women. The effect of all kinds of veils is the same, the woman is rendered anonymous, a non -person, unapproachable, just a silent being skulking along. She is taboo. Islamic notion in women that they belong to an inferior sex, and that they are sex objects. It teaches them to limit their physical movements and their free behavior. Veiling is a powerful tool to institutionalize women’s segregation and to implement a system of sexual apartheid.

A man has the right to terminate his marriage whenever and wherever he pleases. It is the absolute power of a Muslim male to repudiate his wife unilaterally at his discretion. He needs no reason for a divorce; a family quarrel or bad temper is sufficient. Cruelty is not sufficient grounds for divorce because wife beating is enjoined in the Koran. Again no rights for women they are at the pleasure of their husband even if he is abusive.

Muslim religion also supports and promotes child molestation of young girls. At the age of 9, based on lunar year (when a girl is actually 8 years and 8 months) she is considered an adult and has to pray, fast and cover herself by hijab and eligible to be married. According to the Koran a man can have four permanent wives and as many temporary wives as he wants: That sounds a bit like a Morman.

Biblical patriarchy, also known as Christian patriarchy, is a set of beliefs in evangelical Christianity concerning gender relations and their manifestations in institutions, including marriage, the family, and the home. It sees the father as the head of the home, responsible for the conduct of his family.

Research shows that the men most likely to abuse their wives are evangelical Christians who attend church sporadically* Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Saviour." Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness I permit no woman to teach or have authority over a man; rather, she is to remain silent." Women in faith communities where divorce is shunned, and shameful, often feel trapped in abusive marriages.

A wife must submit to verbal and emotional abuse, but if the husband begins to harm her physically, she needs to call civil or church authorities. A Christian wife must not provoke her husband to anger and she must display a gentle spirit. Wives are to honour and respect and follow their husband's lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband.

The Christian teaching of headship has been seen to be contributing to the problem of domestic violence, both in encouraging abusive male partners, and preventing female partners from challenging abusive behaviors, or leaving an abusive relationship.

In conservative churches women are often taught that desire to overthrow male authority is a sign of sin — thereby making feminism innately wrong.

female submission is touted in Pentecostalism as a cure-all for marital problems: If women pray, are deferential and submit, there will be hope. The culture of self-sacrifice can be so strong it lends itself to "a certain masochism".

Many Pentecostal women are advised to separate, but never divorce or remarry. They also report being told by their pastors to go home and make love to husbands who torment and terrify them. Sex is touted as an answer for many marital maladies.

While the Muslim religion is way more controlling and cruel to women, the Christian religion is bad as well. There is no reason a religion should be a form of power over one person over another.

If religion was so good and loving and caring we would not have these issues where men dominate women.

All women have a right to live their life as they see fit and not be controlled by a religion or a man. Women are equal to any man. It is sad that in the 21st century we are still allowing religion and its medieval views to be considered in a  modern world. Unfortunately religion and its followers will continue to use religion as a weapon against the meek and mild. Or rather the women who have the unfortunate luck as being born into a society which regards them as slaves, or inferior human beings.

As long as men are in control there will be little hope for these women.
