Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows fails to show for Jan. 6 committee deposition, prompting calls to hold him in contempt - ABC News

New Evidence proves Jan 6th Insurrection was planned.

Like anyone with a normal thought didn’t know that.

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows sent an email saying the National Guard would be present to 'protect pro Trump people' in the lead up to the US Capitol insurrection, according to a new report released by the January 6 committee Sunday night.

It was just one of numerous new details in the report about Meadows' actions before and during January 6, as well as his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election. The report is a key factor for the committee to send a recommendation for charges of criminal contempt of Congress to the Justice Department. The panel informed Meadows last week that it had no choice but to advance criminal contempt proceedings against him given that he had decided to no longer cooperate with their investigation. The panel will meet Monday to officially advance the report to the full floor House vote as soon as later this week. The vote by the full House is the last step before sending the recommendation to the Department Of Justice.

Trying to get out of testifying Meadows' lawyer asked the panel Monday to reconsider its plans. In a letter to the committee, Meadows' attorney George Terwilliger III said the "contemplated referral would be contrary to law" because his client is a senior official who made a "good-faith invocation of executive privilege and testimonial immunity.

A referral of a senior presidential aide would also be unwise because it would do great damage to the institution of the Presidency, as restraint in the application of the statute over time attests, Terwilliger wrote. In my opinion Trump and the republicans have done great damage to the institution of the presidency and to the nation.

I guess when the rats get caught they will try anything to get out of the mess they have caused. They will try and manipulate wording and make it sound as if they are doing the country a favor.

Terwilliger said that Meadows' choice to decline a deposition is an attempt to comply with his "legal obligations" as a former Trump adviser. "History and the law teach that this attempt is not a crime," Terwilliger wrote. If the guy was honest and had nothing to hide he would be aggregable and do what was right.

Terwilliger also suggests the committee should allow the civil lawsuit Meadows filed against the committee to play out before moving to contempt -- because a ruling in that case would resolve the questions surrounding privilege that are in dispute. Again they are trying to drag this out , so people will forget and possibly if they drag it out, statutes will have expired.

Wow for an administration that supposedly had nothing to do with the insurrection , The committee notes that in one email Meadows sent to an individual about January 6, he said that "the National Guard would be present to 'protect pro Trump people' and that many more would be available on standby," according to the report. The new documents come as Meadows' role is under renewed scrutiny following his decision to cease cooperating with the committee last week.

The plot thickens, as facts come to light. Committee chairman Bennie Thompson appeared to allude to this January 5 email about having the National Guard on standby in a letter to Meadows' attorney last week informing him that the panel would move forward with contempt proceedings.

Thompson also referred to a November 7, 2020, email discussing the appointment of alternate slates of electors as part of a direct and collateral attack and a January 5 email that had a 38-page PowerPoint briefing titled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 JAN" to be provided "on the hill.

Meadows, according to the report, "received text messages and emails regarding apparent efforts to encourage Republican legislators in certain States to send alternate slates of electors to Congress, a plan which one Member of Congress acknowledged was 'highly controversial' and to which Mr. Meadows responded, 'I love it.'"

"Mr. Meadows responded to a similar message by saying '[w]e are' and another such message by saying 'Yes. Have a team on it,'" the report said.

When things started going badly on Jan 6th, the committee notes that Meadows "exchanged text messages with, and provided guidance to, an organizer of the January 6th rally on the Ellipse after the organizer told him that '[t]hings have gotten crazy and I desperately need some direction.

There was also an text exchange that was with a media personality "who had encouraged the presidential statement asking people to, quote, 'peacefully leave the Capitol,'" as well as a text sent "to one of— by one of the President's family members indicating that Mr. Meadows is, quote, 'pushing hard,' end quote, for a statement from President Trump to, quote, 'condemn this shit,' end quote, happening at the Capitol.

The committee has formerly sought communications between Meadows and certain rally organizers as the panel remains focused on finding any level of coordination with the Trump White House. The report goes on to note that Meadows was directly involved in efforts to overturn the election results in key swing states Trump lost and helped push unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud.

"Mr. Meadows partook in meetings and calls during which the participants reportedly discussed the need to ''fight'' back against ''mounting evidence'' of alleged voter fraud after courts had considered and overwhelmingly rejected Trump campaign claims of voter fraud and other election irregularities.

He joined in one such meeting in the Oval Office with Mr. Trump and Members of Congress, which he publicly tweeted about from his personal Twitter account shortly after. He participated in another such call just days before the January 6 attack with Mr. Trump, Members of Congress, attorneys for the Trump re-election campaign, and some 300 State and local officials to discuss the goal of overturning certain States' electoral college results on January 6, 2021," the report adds.

Prior to Meadows' decision to stop cooperation with the committee, he had turned over roughly 6,000 pages worth of documents. That comprises information from his personal email account and personal cell phone that are pertinent to the committee's investigation.

So why now after turning over an abundance of information has he suddenly decided to stop cooperating with the investigation? Wondering minds want to know.

We all know that the insurrection was planned and supported by Trump and his goons. I hope by the time this legalize gets done Trump and his thugs will be spending a lot of time in a federal prision.

The insurrection was an attempt to over throw the government by any means necessary including the murder of members of Congress, the murder of Senators and the murder of the Speaker of the House and the Vice President.

The lynching of Vice president Pence clearly proves these people are nuts, they would murder their own Vice President.

It’s a sad day in this country where Americans have become so hateful to their fellow countrymen that they would kill them over a tyrant and his views. What happened to having different political views but remain civil. Those days of being a united ---- United States is gone.

It will take a generation or two to get through this mess of division.

I personally am tired of the far left and the far right and their political views. There is no common ground anymore. What happened to common sense and compassion? What has caused this great rift? It has been brewing long before Trump came along.

Is it the huge division between the rich, and the working man and the poor? Is it the religious right trying to control everyone to their like?

This country is going down a slippery slope of religious control such as the times of the Spanish Inquisition.  With Texas and other Red States controlling a women’s right to choose, and paying people to “rat out “ a person if they seek an abortion or drive someone to a clinic.. Is in the same respect as what happened from 1478–1834, ended a bit sooner, but it wouldn't be officially abolished by royal decree until July 1834.

The institution of the Spanish Inquisition was ostensibly established to combat heresy. Marranos, those who had converted from Judaism to Christianity but continued to practice their faith in secret, were increasingly considered a threat to Spanish society. Somewhat equivalent to Christians today. As Christians claim that Christianity is the only recognized religion. Claiming that the US is a Christian Nation, and founded on Christianity. All which is false.

I hope Congress and the DOJ can root out the Jan 6th insurrectionists and finally prove to the 60 million Trump followers that they were duped, so we can move on.
