Captain Paul Watson

Sea Shepherd Global "ditched" founder Paul Watson in September 2022 due to a fundamental

disagreement over the organization's direction, with the board voting to remove him as a director

because he resisted a shift away from his aggressive, direct-action approach to a more

collaborative, research-focused, and less confrontational model. Watson, who refused to step down, then formed his own foundation and competing Sea Shepherd groups, leading to a schism where some chapters aligned with him and others remained with Sea Shepherd Global.

As the founder, Watson believed Sea Shepherd should remain focused on its core mission of

confronting and obstructing illegal fishing and whaling. He saw the proposed changes as a

capitulation that would diminish the organization's impact.

The Board's Position:

In contrast, the board of directors (particularly the U.S. chapter and Sea Shepherd Global) sought

a new direction. This involved: Increased Collaboration: Working with governments to achieve goals, rather than confronting them. Focus on Science and Research: Shifting resources from confrontation to scientific endeavors and data collection. Reducing Legal Risk: Moving away from the direct, often illegal, confrontations that led to increased legal challenges and financial liability for the organization.

Public Dissent

Watson publicly opposed the proposed changes, leading to internal strife and public disputes on

social media.

Refusal to Resign: After the board requested that he cease his public criticisms, Watson refused,

prompting them to vote him out in September 2022.

 Watson's New Ventures:

Watson subsequently formed the Captain Paul Watson Foundation and a competing group, Sea Shepherd  Origins.  Several national Sea Shepherd chapters, including those in France, the UK, and Brazil,  pledged allegiance to Watson and Sea Shepherd Origins, leaving Sea Shepherd Global

 A Global Split:

 In my opinion,

There are enough organizations and scientists studying the oceans, we need direct results; we need  power to the people where we can save the whales' lives. We know the International Whaling  Commission has failed the whales and has over decade’s cow towed to the Japanese whaling companies  and other global whaling companies. Putting corporate and National politics ahead of doing what was  right for the whales.

I have followed Captain Watson ever since his co-founding of the Green Peace organization in 1972.  Whales were at the brink of extinction, and without the defenders of the oceans we would not have  these beautiful intelligent species on the earth.

Some people believe that Captain Watsons approach is wrong, I disagree, while board members have  feel good meetings with heads of states, or corporations, these people who could careless for the  animals, all they care about is making more money. Smiling over drinks and fancy dinners knowing  full well they are not going to stop anything.

Japan is a significant contributor to the international shark fin trade, which kills tens of

millions of sharks globally each year, with some estimates reaching up to 100 million.

Japan is also the market for fins, Shark finning involves cutting the fins off a shark and

discarding its body into the ocean, where it drowns, bleeds to death, or is eaten by other

predators.

Environmental Impact: This practice has led to catastrophic declines in shark populations,

threatening species with extinction. Threat to Ecosystems: The reduction in shark populations

disrupts marine ecosystems.

Reducing shark populations to the brink of no return. And these are the folks who many believe are

going to stop the mass murder of species. Just by good will and a friendly chat. So far it has not

worked in my life time nor will it work in the future without robust interaction on the seas.

Now the greedy corporations are decimating the krill in Antarctica for fish supplement industry. A

growing demand for krill oil, marketed for its rich omega-3 fatty acids, drives large-scale fishing

operations… pills which we can do without.

Krill overfishing threatens the Antarctic ecosystem by depleting the primary food source for

whales, seals, penguins, and fish, leading to potential ecosystem collapse and impacting the

ocean's carbon sink capacity Driven by growing demand for krill oil in supplements and krill meal in aquaculture, industrial fishing fleets are catching record amounts of krill, leading to concerns

about severe ecosystem disruption and a potential early closure of the Antarctic Krill Fishery.

The campaign to halt or slow down the krill industry is happening, a continuation of the spirit of

Captain Paul Watsons  former television show Whale Wars, aim to confront industrial krill fishing

vessels with aggressive, non-violent tactics to protect marine life and ecosystems. A must watch

show.

I no longer support Sea Shepard ... after they turned on their founder and removed him from

the very organization he built.  I will cease my support for Sea Shepard and I will support Captain

Paul Watson and his new organization
