Casy Garrett Allegedly finds it necessary to trash talk staff and employees
Tammy’s Letter to Joshua Pond, Columbia County DA
Mr. Pond, I requested the letter of reprimand and the investigation report regarding County commissioner Casey Garrett. The report I am referring to is the investigation on the whistle blower complaint that has been alleged against Commissioner Garrett. I was denied the investigation report. I was given the letter of reprimand which was made public by Commissioners Magruder and Commissioner Smith at a county commissioners meeting. After I received the letter, I attended a commissioners meeting on August 27th, 2025. At that meeting I spoke during public comment, thanking Commissioner Magruder and Commissioner Smith for taking the lead and supporting their staff and chastising Commissioner Garrett for his unprofessional and poor behavior and treatment of the staff and all county workers. Mr. Garrett has had an ongoing hostile and racist reign while he was in a supervisory position within the county, before he was elected county commissioner. Mr. Garrett was found to have called people the N word numerous times, referring to them as his N’s, was banned from the jail because he could not follow simple rules such as not bringing contra band into the jail on construction jobs, he was banned from the courts under Judge Groove because of the way he treated the judges staff. Complaints, noncompliance and disciplinary actions were taken against Mr. Garrett several times, he had to take several classes on how to act and treat people while in employment at the county. This information is in his personal file which was made public through a records request which I done, was denied, and won on appeal. Mr. Garrett has once again proved my case for bringing forth the investigation findings to the public’s attention. This is an elected position and while some may find his actions acceptable many will not. And the taxpayers deserve the right to know before they cast a ballot what he has done to warrant an investigation, and reprimand from his fellow commissioners, a possible re-call, or the ability to make a different choice for commissioner when his term expires, and why there is a Whistle Blower suit pending against Mr. Garrett. While some of these incidents mentioned were carried out before he was elected to a commissioner’s position. The behavior continues, it clearly shows and sets a precedence that Mr. Garrett has not learned from his prior actions and has continually belittled staff and employees, as he has gained a higher position of power, where he can retaliate against staff and employees if they speak out against his racist, hateful, and unprofessional treatment. He is now back to the point where he is unable to talk directly to Dept. heads, converse with state courts who share the building, converse with contractors, go to parks meetings, other commissions which is part of a county commissioner's job. He has broken the public’s trust; the public is paying the man to do a job which he cannot do. The public has an absolute right to know what Casey Garrett has done to prevent him from doing the job which the electorate has elected him to do. Garrett’s commissioners report: Wednesday August 27th, 2025 The report Time starts at 43.22 and urges the county to release the full investigation at 44.38 Garrett clearly said he wanted the investigation released to clear his name. Ends at 45.00 I agree the report needs released to the public. Whatever your decision, please accept my sincere thanks for your time and consideration of my request.
Sincerely, Tammy Maygra
